Please be aware that we will be moving from 48 hours to 72 hours notice for repeat prescription requests from April 2020.
We recommend an influenza immunisation to all patients aged 65 or over and patients with chronic heart, lung or kidney disease, diabetes and asthma and residents of nursing and rest homes or a carer. This is usually available during October and November and clinics are run during this time. Please ask at Reception for details.
Immunisation with pneumococcal vaccine (Pneumovax), which is a one off vaccination, is also available and currently recommended for the over 65’s and those with chronic illness. This can be done at the same time as the ’flu vaccination.
All patients are encouraged to keep their tetanus immunity up to date; after the initial course of 5 tetanus vaccinations has been given, no further vaccination should be required unless there has been a major injury or travel to a remote area with limited access to medical facilities is planned. Single dose tetanus is no longer available – it is now a combination shot called Revaxis which combines tetanus, diphtheria and polio.
Adults at risk should make an appointment with the Practice Nurse for other immunisations such as hepatitis A and B and meningococcus A and C.
You will be seen regularly throughout your pregnancy by the Midwife and/or Doctor and at hospital. Please always bring a urine sample in a clean bottle to your antenatal appointment.
Your immediate postnatal care will be provided by the Midwife team, with your postnatal check being provided by the Surgery team around 6 to 8 weeks after the birth.
You will be provided with contact telephone numbers to enable you to contact a Midwife at any time if you have concerns or problems.
This Practice Nurse-run Asthma Clinic provides advice and ongoing support for newly diagnosed and established asthmatics. All aspects of care are provided including assessing symptoms, triggers and treatments as well as self-management plans. Adjustments to medication and devices may be made if appropriate and prescriptions issued in liaison with Doctors.
All new patients with asthma registering with the Practice are invited to attend the Asthma Clinic and annually thereafter if well controlled.
The Practice has a screening programme with automatic recall. Current recommendations state that women between 25 and 49 years should have a smear test every 3 years and women between 50 and 64 years should be tested every 5 years. A smear test is a simple way of assessing the health of the cervix. Experts can check and recognise changes which suggest that cancer may develop in the future.
Please contact the Practice for your result. Occasionally you may be asked to have a repeat test. This can be for technical reasons (the cell sample was obscured) or because there is a concern regarding some of the cells.
The GPs may be instructed to repeat the test at intervals or to refer you to a gynaecologist for a closer inspection or for colposcopy (an outpatient procedure).
We know that some of our patients do not take up the offer of cervical screening, despite several invitations. If you have not responded to 3 invitations we will send you a letter to sign, instructing us that you do not wish to take part in the screening programme.
You will be given the opportunity every 5 years to change your mind.
If you have received invitations and do not wish to have a smear test, please contact us in order that you may sign our form.
Child development checks form part of the child health surveillance programme and are carried out at 8 weeks – see the immunisation schedule.
If your child is due any immunisations a reminder will be sent for you to attend the Practice. Immunisations cannot be administered without parental consent. Therefore if a grandparent is bringing the baby, written consent must be brought with the child and pre-signed by the parent. Social Services must also give written consent if the child is under the care of Social Services.
Over the last few years we have been providing our Practice Nurses with advanced training in chronic disease management. This means that they have extensive knowledge and experience in the management of conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, asthma and high blood pressure. If you have been diagnosed with one of these conditions, your GP will involve the Practice Nurse in your care at the earliest opportunity. We also offer a Specialist Health Clinic for patients with more complex cases.
Once your condition has been stabilized, the Practice Nurse will assume responsibility for the monitoring and routine follow-up of your chronic disease. This will involve you making an appointment to see the Practice Nurse regularly for a review. The Practice Nurse will advise you how frequently you need to be seen and if you need to have any blood tests taking before your appointment. If this monitoring reveals any problems that may require a significant change in therapy, the Practice Nurse will refer you back to your Doctor.
However, if at any time you develop new symptoms that you are concerned about, you should make an appointment to see either the Practice Nurse or your GP.
This chronic lung disease, primarily caused by smoking, can be very debilitating. This Practice Nurse-run clinic aims to improve quality of life for patients and control symptoms. An annual check provides an opportunity to assess lung function and monitor disease progression, address lifestyle issues and give support and advice.

If you have been diagnosed with diabetes, you will require regular monitoring of your condition. This will mainly be performed by the Practice Nurse who will liaise with your GP about any specific therapies required. Our overall aim is to enable the patient with diabetes, by the means of education and discussion, to take responsibility for their day to day diabetes care.

Comprehensive confidential advice is available during normal surgery times by all the GPs. We offer general advice on contraception and in particular oral contraceptives, injectable contraception, implants and IUS/Ds (coils).
Implants and IUS/Ds require a special appointment, which you will need to arrange with Reception. It is important that you discuss whether an implant or IUS/D is appropriate for you with your GP before making this appointment.
The ‘morning after pill’ or emergency contraception is prescribed when appropriate, but you need to seek advice within 72 hours.

The Practice offers a minor surgery service for procedures such as removal of ingrowing toe nails, warts and moles. You will need to make an appointment with a GP first to discuss your condition and the GP will then decide if this is suitable for treatment at the Practice.
If suitable, you will be put on our waiting list for a further appointment in a Minor Surgery Clinic. At the present time Doctors Egan, Shackley and Reddy hold Minor Surgery Clinics to which any of the GPs can refer.
For all minor surgery appointments, please can you arrive at least 10 minutes before your appointment to complete the pre-surgery paperwork.
Your Pharmacist is a highly trained healthcare professional who can provide advice on common health problems and the best medicines to treat them and can prescribe for certain ailments. You no longer need to make an appointment with a GP if your ailment is listed below:
South Worcestershire pharmacies offer a service where some medicines are available free of charge to those patients* who get free NHS prescriptions. There is no need for a prescription from your GP. Please speak to the Pharmacist for more details.

If you require any vaccinations relating to foreign travel you need to make an appointment with the Practice Nurse at least 4 weeks before you travel.
Our Travel Clinics are very busy and it is advisable to make arrangements to have your travel vaccinations in good time as last minute appointments are very seldom available. If we cannot offer you a suitable appointment there are alternative travel clinics, details of which can be found through www.masta.org.
Please print and complete the Foreign Travel Form and return to the Practice as soon as possible so that an appointment can be made for you.
Some travel vaccines are ordered on a private prescription and these incur a charge over and above the normal prescription charge. This is because travel vaccination is not included in the services provided by the NHS and therefore is a chargeable service as follows:

Our Doctors carry out a wide range of medical reports and investigations at the request of patients either directly or by other agencies such as solicitors, banks, local authorities etc on their behalf.
There are charges for this type of work because it does not form part of the NHS and is therefore classed as private income. The amount of work required varies greatly and has to be reflected in the level of fees, but we always follow any guidelines recommended by the British Medical Association and monitor our charges regularly to ensure that they are fair and reflect the amount of work required by the Doctors and administration staff involved.
We would like to remind patients that what often appears to be a simple private form only requiring a Doctor's signature is more complex as the GP will need to review the patient’s full medical records before signing, as this is their professional responsibility.
